I’m Sim, Co-owner and Director of Thai Son S.P Cut & Sew Knitwear Company, a family-owned knitwear manufacturer based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It was a true honor to speak at the Cascale Forum: Ho Chi Minh City, the organization’s largest and most inclusive event to date.

I participated as a panelist in the session “Breaking the Silos: Climate Action Demands Equity”, together with leaders from H&M Group, FairWear, and Hirdaramani Apparels. The discussion focused on ensuring that climate action is inclusive, fair, and actionable — especially from the perspective of manufacturers in emerging markets like Vietnam.

What does Cascale do?

Cascale, formerly the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), is a global organization promoting environmental and social progress in the apparel industry. Using tools like the Higg Index, it helps brands and manufacturers measure sustainability across their supply chains.

At the Cascale Forum in Ho Chi Minh City, I spoke on a panel discussing climate action and equity in fashion. I highlighted the need for greater representation of manufacturers in sustainability conversations — the ones who turn policies into practice.

As a Vietnamese knitwear factory with 35+ years of experience, Thai Son S.P understands the real challenges: compliance complexity, low MOQs, and top-down mandates. Through this forum, I called for more collaboration and shared responsibility between brands and suppliers.

Who founded Cascale?

Cascale (formerly SAC) was co-founded by Patagonia and Walmart in 2011, aiming to create a shared approach to measuring sustainability across the apparel industry. Over time, it evolved into a broad alliance of stakeholders in fashion and footwear.

As a Vietnamese supplier deeply involved in sustainability, I appreciate the platform Cascale provides to amplify voices like ours. Speaking at their event gave me the chance to highlight Vietnam’s potential as a responsible, forward-looking manufacturing hub.

Towards True Climate Equity and Partnership

If we want to achieve meaningful climate goals, we must bridge the silos between policy and production. Equity means more than fair pay or safe working conditions — it means sharing decision-making power, knowledge, and resources.

Vietnam’s textile and apparel industry is not only a reliable and capable partner for production, but also a valuable voice in shaping the future of sustainable sourcing. By promoting responsible growth and long-term partnerships, we can move toward a future that is both profitable and principled.

Panel: “Breaking the Silos – Climate Action Demands Equity”

I was invited to speak on a powerful panel titled “Breaking the Silos: Climate Action Demands Equity”, alongside experts from H&M Group, FairWear, Hirdaramani Apparels, and Cascale. We exchanged insights on how equitable climate action in the fashion industry must include supplier voices, especially from manufacturing countries like Vietnam.

In my talk, I emphasized:

  • The need for fairness and shared responsibility in sustainability expectations from brands toward suppliers.
  • The importance of long-term, two-way partnerships for lasting environmental impact.
  • Vietnam’s rising role as a reliable, capable, and forward-looking garment sourcing destination.
